creating a better food economy

Sussex Surplus is a community embedded social enterprise from the charity Feedback taking fresh and surplus food in danger of being wasted and transforming it into long-life products and tasty meals. We sell jars of soup wholesale to independent shops, feed the community at our weekly café in East Brighton each Thursday and provide catering services on request. Get in touch to stock our soup or have us cater your upcoming event!

no food should go to waste

Each year on UK farms, 5 million tonnes of fresh produce goes to waste. As a spin-off from the Sussex Gleaning Network, our project has relationships with growers who donate their unsellable surplus for us to turn it into long-life products. We believe we can secure nutritious and delicious food for everyone in our community, without trashing our planet. In the process we want to create meaningful entry-level paid opportunities for young people facing barriers to employment

join us in the fields

The Sussex Gleaning Network gives volunteers all over the country an opportunity to help rescue fresh, surplus fruit and veg from local farms and get it to good causes. Reduce food waste, connect with the land and enjoy the outdoors.

join us in the kitchen

Sussex Surplus cooks a weekly community meal in Kemptown, Brighton, using ingredients that are gleaned or from our partner organisation FareShare Sussex. You can sign up to volunteer with us cooking, hosting or collecting food.

DONATE

You can support Sussex Surplus’ work in the community with a financial donation. Our weekly meal and community fridge are provided on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis, so nobody is turned away through lack of funds.
