starting 2024 with a Bang

Spring is almost upon us and for Sussex Surplus 2024 has started with a real bang and so we thought it was worth sharing some recent highlights. We have cooked some of our tastiest meals yet, attended and catered for some lively community events, engaged in some productive team restructuring, and made some exciting plans for the months ahead.

Highlights of the first two months of 2024 were:

Feeding gardeners at Seedy Sunday at the Brighton Open Market. See our Community Kitchen Coordinator Sophie and volunteer Tom on our stall

Pancake Day

Celebrating Pancake Day with a One Pot Supper Club at our base in the Bristol Estate Community Room, see local resident Anne having a flipping good time.

Hydrocracker Storytelling

Feeding community theatre group Hydrocracker, which included Sophie telling the story of her favourite recipe (Butternut Squash Risotto) and serving a portion to all attendees

Chinese New Year I

We made over 100 meals for Chinese New Year, including delicious jiaoza dumplings
